About Concurrent Classes

The Arkansas Higher Education coordinating Board in October of 1998 first approved a concurrent enrollment policy.  During the past several years, greater emphasis has been placed upon concurrent enrollment as a means of providing curricular options to high school students and the opportunity for students to begin earning college credit while attending high school.

In the fall of 2008 and the spring of 2009 there were 8 partner schools, 16 instructors, and 247 students participating.  There are 5 disciplines that include English, Math, Social Science, Science, and Computer Studies.  These are all CEP model courses with no online classes offered.  The schools include the following Arkansas schools:  Black Rock, Hoxie, Maynard, Corning, Hillcrest, Sloan Hendrix, Paragould and Pocahontas.  Also Naylor and Twin Rivers are the participating schools from Missouri.  In the past there have been 5 other schools that have participated and will continue to participate as their schedule allows.  The Arkansas schools include Williford and Rector.  The Missouri schools include Alton, Naylor and Neelyville.

Currently, in the fall of 2009, the following schools are partners in the BRTC concurrent program:  Hoxie, Paragould, Pocahontas, Maynard, Black Rock, Naylor, and Twin Rivers.

Any high school student that has completed the 8th grade and is enrolled in an Arkansas public school and is recommended by their high school principal or superintendent may enroll in college courses when the combined enrollments do not exceed a normal academic load.

If your school is not included and you wish it to be, please contact Joniece Trammel at 870-248-4000, Ext. 4188.  For more information follow the link to:

The Arkansas Course Transfer System (ACTS) contains information about the transferability of courses within Arkansas public colleges and universities. Students are guaranteed the transfer of applicable credits and equitable treatment in the application of credits for admissions and degree requirements. Students may complete specified General Education courses anywhere in the public system as well as many courses in the degree/major that have been pre-identified for transfer.  This system is designed to assist in planning from the high school level through the adult workforce.
